10 Reasons Why Hypnotherapy Is Great for Anxiety and Stress.
The amount of effort that the mind and the psyche need to release “negative thoughts” when we are under stress could look like an insurmountable task in and of itself. This is especially true when we feel overwhelmed by intense emotions that don’t go away by just changing the thoughts on the surface level in the rational mind.
When we experience high level of anxiety or stress, emotions are already boiling up within us. The body is in “fight or flight” reaction- a physiological response to an event or situation perceived as a threat- involving the sympathetic nervous system. This is a survival mechanism that prepares the body to fight or flee. The problem is that the body can also overreact the same way to situations that aren’t life threatening. This affects mental and psychical health in numerous ways.
The truth is that for most people, this is the way they navigate life. We don’t think it’s possible to do things differently in order to handle problems, others or ourselves.
Many times, anxiety and stress reactions are connected to emotions that are outside of our conscious awareness. So, we might feel angry on the surface, but below the surface there is sadness, frustration, etc. At the same time, we have beliefs and fears that contained in the subconscious part of us.
It can be scary to navigate emotions and fears without a safe container. We haven’t been culturally and socially taught how to do this in the first place. So we might choose instead to disconnect ourselves from them. The problem is that emotions and assumptions that go unchecked take a great deal of energy, thus creating additional emotional distress. There is nothing wrong with having conflicting emotions except for the meanings we assign to them.
Here is something you might like to know about how to change things with the use of Hypnotherapy:
Hypnotherapy is a safe, effective way to access the subconscious part of our mind that is connected to habits, conflicting emotions, patterns and automatic responses. Most of our “inner world” is non-conscious.
The first step is always getting CLEAR about what is going on with us. Believe me, most people are not aware. There’s nothing wrong with that either, but it doesn’t help in the long run.
How Hypnotherapy can help release Anxiety and stress:
1- On the level of difficult emotions, it provides a safe container. In a state of trance, the body and the mind are not in “flight or fight” mode. This makes it possible to bring perspective and to see things through a clear lens instead of through the filter of distorted thinking that occurs when we are stressed out or anxious. Hypnotherapy as a tool, can bypass the logical mind that is mostly fixated on the problems, and allows us to bring relaxation to the body and space in the mind.
2- Hypnotherapy brings inner resources and possible solutions to the most pressing problems. When we’re under stress or with anxiety, we have ‘tunnel vision.” We can’t see the way out, or we don’t believe in possibilities. A great deal of resources and solutions can come to us when we refocus on possibilities and creative answers.
3- It helps us to organically see the bigger picture. When an event or situation seems “so bad” under stress, hypnotherapy can allow one to see the problem as an opportunity for bringing new skills, developing new traits and making healthy decisions based on a balanced mind/state.
4- Hypnotherapy helps to reduce the emotional burn out of long-term stress and anxiety. When the adrenals are out of balance, the body is exposed to constant stress and we can lose the ability to know when to stop. Hypnotherapy can literally create new neural? pathways and associations that help us rest when we need to after a long day and to distinguish a life-threating situation from daily stress or an event.
5- Promotes good health to the mind and body. These days many disorders and illnesses are associated with Stress and Anxiety. So, a healthy mind and body maintain a positive, sustainable lifestyle. Some examples of body ailments linked to stress are heart disease, asthma, obesity, diabetes, and gastrointestinal problems.
6- Hypnotherapy helps to create new pathways and associations in the mind/body non-voluntary system. Some automatic responses are not under of conscious control and can be modified and regulated during trance to achieve a desired goal. Thus, hypnotherapy can provide effective treatment for phobias, fear of public speaking, fear of flying, etc.
7- It can help with self-exploration about our “defaults:” the way we see life and the way we see others and ourselves. It allows us to step back and observe the programing from which we operate. Is it serving us? Is it true?
8- Hypnotherapy can bring a sense of self-acceptance. It can reduce the harshness of the critical mind and can unlock more empowering and nurturing states of mind and heart.
9- Hypnotherapy can help us to gain more clarity about our emotional needs. When we connect with the wisdom of the body, we can start peeling back the layers of our emotions and get in touch with feelings or emotions stored in the body. An opportunity to shine a light into the parts of the self that maybe ignored or neglected. The process of connecting with deeper parts of ourselves not only allows for the recognition of our emotional needs and feelings, but it also allows for the necessary release of psychic energy and, ultimately, the attending to these emotional needs.
10- Hypnotherapy can help to develop new skills, behaviors and new actions that are in alignment with what we want to create in life. Positive changes in a specific area could be perceived as great improvement but terrifying at the same time, as they are new, “out of the comfort zone”. An example of this could be gaining confidence in a new job position, learn setting boundaries in a relationship or learning a new way to communicate healthy needs.
